Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) of the Government of Sindh not only began online classes but also provided training to teachers on conducting online classes on the digital platform of Microsoft Teams and 365 Office Software.

Despite the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, the foundation has been able to engage teachers and students in digital classrooms through a pioneering collaboration with Microsoft even before the spread of COVID-19. Undoubtedly it benefitted students and teachers during the lockdown period.

Earlier in March, 2020, the Microsoft Expert team extended training on Microsoft Teams and Office 365 Software to the master trainers of SEF, later they further conducted training of SEF’s partners, head teachers and subject teachers.

The first step was to train teachers how to use technology for learning. Teachers were trained on how to use Microsoft Teams and Office 365 Software and how to create teams and classrooms for students. The purpose of these basic sessions was to make teachers familiar with the Microsoft team and its applications they learned how to conduct online classes along with the usage of different applications for creating presentations and videos.

Further, the training sessions were divided in two sections; in the first section primary teachers were given training on ECCE National Curriculum and its standard operating procedures, child psychology, education philosophy, child learning abilities and more along with technological tools. On the other hand, in the second section, subject teachers of English, Science, Mathematics and Social Studies were trained subject wise on how to conduct class and how to create presentations online. So far, the foundation has successfully provided training to approx. 10,000 Head teachers/subject teachers.

The training sessions are meant to provide exhaustive support to teachers and equip them with pedagogical concepts and newest strategies of conducting classes online with the basic concepts of English, Mathematics and Science subjects. At the end of the training sessions, the teachers became able to prepare lesson plans, conduct effective lessons, and prioritize children according to their level of understanding.

Moreover, it is important to mention that without the support of LSU, T&A, M&E and the IT Department, it was quite impossible to achieve the goals. IT Department generated more than 12,500 IDs in a short span of time which was remarkable, on the other hand, T&A Department along with Regions/District Teams burnt the midnight oil to bring thousands of teachers and students from almost 1,500 SEF Schools on a platform which enabled them to continue their academic activities.

The Managing Director SEF, Abdul Kabir Kazi appreciating the efforts of SEF T&A and other team members stated that it was as important as challenging to bring teachers on the IT solutions like Microsoft Teams and 365 Office in order to connect with students for continuing academic activities, but our efforts were fruitful & we successfully provided training to around 10,000 subject/headteachers.
