The year 2019 has proven to be extremely fruitful for Pakistan’s tech ecosystem. There was a multitude of events and conferences that proved to be extremely helpful for different tech individuals. These tech individuals hailed from different universities, the corporate sector, and the entrepreneurship sector. In order to bookend the year on a high note, Jazz is organizing an exciting Hackathon. With the combined collaboration of Code for Pakistan and OPEN Islamabad, Jazz is organizing the Sustainable Development Goals – SDG Hackathon. The hackathon is scheduled to be held from 6th – 8th December at National Incubation Center, Islamabad.

What is SDG Hackathon?

SDG Hackathon is a premier tech initiative by Jazz. The sole purpose of the event is to spread awareness about the Sustainable Development Goals that are not being as focused as they should be. The event will include a mixture of technologists, designers, urban planners, scientists, NGOs, and CSOs. The main purpose of the hackathon is to come up with interactive and innovative solutions to solve social and civic problems. This needs to be done using different technologies, data, and digital tools.

The prerequisites of participating in the SDG Hackathon are as follows:

  • You should have an idea that can create a substantial positive impact on society on any scale.
  • You should have an adequate amount of skills in mobile or website development, design, mapping, data analysis, research, subject matter expertise in SDG.

SDG Hackathon Walkthrough

The SDG Hackathon spans into two-and-a-half days which gives an ample amount of time to the participants. Different domain experts and mentors will accompany the participants in the intensive activities of creating innovative solutions and learning design thinking.

The primary expectations from the participating teams are that they will develop prototypes that cater to varying social and civil challenges. Furthermore, the solutions should relate to the following five SDGs:

  • Good health and well-being,
  • Quality education,
  • Gender Equality,
  • Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure,
  • Sustainable Cities and Communities.
